New Links

I am spending more time on the computer these days (like everyone else), and am enjoying taking the time to look through and read more blogs than I have in the past. So I would like to share a few that have crossed my monitor, and added links.

One I’ve looked at for awhile is written by Tony. He is a local artist in the Detroit metro area, and a fellow drawing comrade at the local art center. His drawings are wonderful, as are his paintings. But what I like even better is his poetry. Words have power, and he uses them well.

A newcomer to blogging, also a fellow figure drawing companion, is Tim. His dedication to his work, his attitude of wanting to learn -- not dazzle, and his way of observing his surroundings seem to be in sync with me. It is a pleasure to see his work evolve through his hard work.

Another newcomer, but one with so much depth in his thinking, is Joe. He takes on such an important subject: beauty. What is beautiful? I have thought on this for a number of years, and felt I could never get my brain around it. It inspires, it uplifts, it hurts, it defies a solid definition, yet we seem to know it when we experience it. Isn’t this an awesome topic to ponder at a time when all the news is bad, so many people are narrowly and self-focused, and the only thing to worry about is – today. We really need to get back to some of the universal principles and take a longer view.

For fun, I’m including the blog for Lauren, who now lives in the upper part of the state. A few years ago we met when we were members of an artist-owned gallery. She is a prolific artist, and is one of the most upbeat people I’ve been around. Besides a blog, she also puts out a frequent newsletter. Something I especially like is the way she passes on encouragement to try new things, as well as sharing what she is currently “celebrating” – from the biggest to the littlest things.

How much better the journey is with fellow travelers who you can like and respect.
